no boycot

A few people asked me what the use of boycotting Total is. I can understand people feeling there is little use. But should it specifically be of world-defining use? What would be the use for yourself?, is my question. In my theory, we are in a winterperiod, the dominant need for society being reflection, balancing out what is truly important and what should be changed or ended over the next few years. In my highly personal Tom Kniesmeijer-reflective mood, I'm going back to the choices I make in daily life: I'm defining my own world and how I want it to be. And taking action on that. Do I want to do business with people I don't like? No, not anymore. Do I want to do business with people doing business with Birma? No. I think Total has the right to make their own choices, but I don't agree. So I choose to follow my own view on the world. It's that easy. Let's not call it a boycot. That puts far too much weight on such a small decision: I see people getting real angry on television for being forced into taking sides. Let's call it what it is: a small daily choice.
Even if it won't help the world, it helps me.
