Was fijn gister. Wat zijn we toch altijd van het brainstormen. Heerlijk!
Lees verder in Chance and Circumstance van Cage en Cunningham - blz 48 - But for stripping his mind of its right to control, Cage was interested in the study of numbers with which he found it congenial to begin a musical composition. Cunningham wanted The Seasons to be cyclical an concise, so Cage devised a rhythmic structure that coressponded to the sections of the dance - Prelude: Winter; Prelude: Spring; Prelude: Summer; Prelude: Fall; and ending with a repeat of Winter's prelude. In Cage's words, "The Seasons was an attempt to express the traditional Indian view of the seasons as quiescence (winter), creation (spring), preservation (summer), and destruction (fall)". Of The Seasons Cunningham wrote: "If time and the seasons are inseperable, it seems to me that time and dancing are hardly less so." Verderop in de tekst wordt Cage nogmaals geciteerd: "And the purpose of writing music? One is, of course, not dealing with purpose but dealing with sounds. Or the answer must take the form of paradox: a purposeful purposelessness or a purpseless play. This play, however, is an affirmation of life - not an attempt to bring order out of chaos nor to suggest improvements in creation, but simply a way of waking up to the very life we're living which is so excellent once one gets one's mind and one's ideas out of its way and lets it act of its own accord."
