1. Leaving 30 kilo of books in a luggage deposit is literally putting your writings on hold. An end to a 4 months dive into book-country. Loved adding so much new knowledge and anecdotes to my ‘story line carrousel’. But getting rid of them for two weeks feels like relieve too. My mental hard disk is almost full. Let it all sink in for a few weeks.
2. Interesting how you combine things when you keep clipping newspapers through the years. Found an article on the famous Dutch Party-club Now & Wow in Rotterdam.
The first was proudly presenting it as the haven for multicultural Holland, where Moroccan. Surinam, Dutch women and men, gays and straights, mixed without any worry or problem. It was all about individual expression. The second was on the closing of Now & Wow, in april of this year. “It didn’t mix anymore”, the title said. Only a few years in between. Shame, been there once and loved the atmosphere. Hope this ‘winter’period will bring us more than people stepping back into their own cultural background for belonging and security reasons. 3. It’s not too late to end your current name, which may be lethal. A study examining 27 years’ worth of California death certificates found that people with ‘good’ monograms such as GOD, ACE or WOW lived over 7 years longer than people with monograms like PIG, RAT, DUD or ILL. What to make of my TBK, I’m not sure.
4. Last walk, last coffee, last anything. Last incoherent thoughts on my stay here. Too soon to make sense of it, I guess. See what comes up the next few days. To end with a cliché, I ended up packing a T-shirt, shorts and socks along with some small change and all the empty recycle bottles in a bag for the homeless man sitting on the corner. That’s my last bit for a better world here in Vancouver.
Bye now, lovely city. Tomorrow it’s Prince Rupert for me. Looks nice on the picture, doesn't it? But don't worry, I will not change the log title. We'll just pretend we're still in Vancouver.
